Kick Attends "Building Board Stars"
A Hands-On Board Retreat and Training Experience with Mickey MacIntyre
Detroit, MI — A great opportunity was given to area Detroit LGBT organizations. On Saturday, October 17, 2009 Mickey MacIntyre from RealChange Partners conducted board training for LGBT and other progressive organizations in the area. Entire board members were invited to attend a full-day training. Affirmations hosted this low cost alternative to an annual Board retreat.
Mickey states, "The economy has pushed Board members to face incredible challenges. You're not alone if you have found yourself asking: Am I doing this right?"
"Even in better economic times, members of Boards of Directors too often operate without the fundamental knowledge or experience to take the authority and responsibility that's endowed only to us. The uncertainty this creates can lead to organizational disaster at its worst and personal frustration at the least. You will learn to simplify your board experience, build your confidence, and make board service the highlight of your day. Now more than ever, you owe it to yourself and your organization."
Mickey calls this becoming a "Board Star" and by the end the day Kick was shining brightly!
The Racial Equity Initiative/Community Foundation covered the cost of this training for six local LGBT people of color organizations. Kick — The Agency for LGBT African-Americans was in attendance, along with Black Pride Society, SPICE, Al Gamea, Detroit Latin@z, Karibu House, Full Truth Ministries and Unity Fellowship Church.
